Responsible Play

The Kartrom mezzanine is one further room of the house. We keep it small, and we keep it quiet, and we keep it, like the sauna raft or the pool, as something one may take or leave. Nothing about a stay at Coast Spirit turns on time spent at a table.
Who may enter
The mezzanine gaming room is open to resident guests aged 18 and over. Guests who look under 25 will be asked to show identification at the door, we would rather ask an older-looking guest than miss a younger one. Persons who are not resident at the house are not admitted.
How the house keeps the room considered
The room opens at eight and closes at one. It does not extend those hours on request. The concierge will suggest a break after two hours at a table, and will bring a pot of coffee or tea to the mezzanine when the room has been busy. Guests may ask the concierge, in writing at check-in, to be reminded of a personal time limit or a personal stake limit; the request is kept between the guest and the desk.
Table stakes are set modestly by the standards of a resident-only room, and are voiced in words at the table rather than displayed as figures. We will decline to raise stakes on request. We do not extend credit of any kind for play, we do not offer inducements to play, and we do not run promotional offers tied to the room.
If play is no longer welcome
Any guest may ask the concierge to have their name added to the door list of guests who are not to be admitted to the mezzanine for the remainder of the stay, or for a longer period recorded against future stays. The request is honoured without discussion.
Setting your own limits before you arrive
If it helps to name the shape of the visit in writing before you come, please do, the enquiry form is a fine place to say "no mezzanine this stay" or to set a time for the last visit of the evening. We will hold to it.
Where to find independent help in Norway
If the way you or someone close to you plays is causing worry, two independent Norwegian services offer information, self-assessment tools, and conversations in confidence. Neither is connected to Coast Spirit, and we have no visibility of who visits them.
A note to friends and family
The two services above hold conversations with people close to someone whose play is causing worry, as well as with the person themselves. There is no need to have a full picture before writing to them.
